Why WhatsApp Doesn't Approve Political Templates
WhatsApp's Business Messaging Policy prohibits political parties, politicians, candidates, and campaigns from using the WhatsApp Business Platform. Because of this, template categories built for political outreach — candidate introductions, voter broadcasts, rally invites, and even internal campaign-team coordination sent through a Business API account — are not approved. This is a category-level restriction, not a content or wording issue. Consent and template wording do not override it.
This Is Different From a Normal Template Rejection

Template Categories That Fall Under the Restriction
These are illustrative categories only — no real party, candidate, or campaign content — shown to explain what the restriction covers.
Voter-Facing Broadcast
Candidate introduction messages, rally/event invites sent to a constituency-wide broadcast list, and manifesto-link broadcasts all fall under the political-campaign restriction.
Internal Campaign Coordination
Volunteer shift updates and booth-assignment messages sent through a Business API account are also restricted — the policy applies to the political-campaign entity operating the account, not only to voter-facing content.
Reply-Triggered Confirmations
RSVP confirmations and other auto-reply templates tied to a political-campaign broadcast are restricted for the same reason as the original broadcast template.

These channels are not covered by WhatsApp's policy. Each has its own checks: SMS uses DLT content-template registration; voice recordings follow the voice provider's requirements; election content may need MCMC pre-certification.
