Why Samsung's Own App Is Hit or Miss

Galaxy phones ship with Samsung Messages as the default app, and its RCS support in India has been inconsistent from carrier to carrier. On some networks it only turns on a limited "advanced messaging" mode that works between Samsung devices on the same carrier — not full RCS Universal Profile messaging that works with any device or business sender. That gap is a common source of confusion for Samsung users trying to receive rich RCS business messages and not seeing them come through properly.

Turning RCS On, Step by Step

1. Install Google Messages from the Google Play Store if it isn't already on the device.
2. Open the app and follow the prompt to set it as the default messaging app.
3. Connect to Wi-Fi or mobile data — activation needs an internet connection to verify the number.
4. Wait for verification — Google Messages checks carrier RCS support and turns Chat features on automatically, usually within a few minutes.
5. Confirm it's active — check Google Messages settings for "RCS Chats" or "Chat features" showing as connected.

When RCS Still Won't Turn On

• RCS not activating — check that Google Messages, not Samsung Messages, is set as the default SMS app in phone settings.
• Stuck on "Connecting..." — confirm there's an active internet connection, and try toggling Wi-Fi or mobile data off and back on.
• Outdated Google Play Services — update both Google Play Services and Google Messages from the Play Store, then restart the app.
• Carrier hasn't activated RCS yet — some numbers take longer depending on the carrier's rollout; this usually resolves within 24-48 hours.
• Still stuck — clear the Google Messages app cache (Settings > Apps > Google Messages > Storage > Clear Cache) and reopen it.
