How to register your business, sender IDs and SMS templates on Airtel's DLT portal, including the forms Airtel asks you to download and fill in.
Every business that sends commercial SMS in India must register on one operator's DLT portal. Airtel's portal differs from others mainly in its sign-up questions and the forms it asks you to download.
This guide covers the Airtel-specific steps. For the general process across operators, see what DLT registration is; for Jio's portal, see Jio DLT registration.
Any business that sends commercial SMS in India, such as OTPs, alerts or promotions, must be registered as a Principal Entity on a DLT portal. On Airtel's portal this is the Enterprise registration; the other option, Telemarketer, is for SMS providers and aggregators, not for businesses sending their own messages.
You only need one portal. If you are already registered on Jio, Vi or BSNL, use that Principal Entity ID; you do not need to pay again on Airtel.
Business and identity documents (typically):
Airtel's own forms, downloaded from the portal during registration:
Fill Airtel's forms in the same format and wording as the samples, on company letterhead where asked, signed and sealed. Changing the wording is a common reason for rejection. See our full DLT documents checklist.
| Item | Typical cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Principal Entity (Enterprise) registration | Commonly reported as ₹5,900 | Paid using the bank details shown on the portal (NEFT, cheque or DD); confirm the current amount and GST treatment there |
| Header (sender ID) registration | No separate fee on most portals | Per header |
| Template registration | No separate fee on most portals | Per template |
| MetaReach help with filing | ₹0 for MetaReach SMS customers | Help with entity, header and template registration |
Fees are set by the operator and can change. For a full breakdown across operators, see DLT registration charges in India.
Portal screens can change. Steps are based on publicly available walkthroughs of Airtel's portal checked on 29 October 2026.
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Registered as Telemarketer by mistake | Businesses sending their own SMS should register as Enterprise; contact the portal's support to correct it |
| Forms rejected | Use Airtel's sample forms without changing the wording, on letterhead where asked, signed and sealed |
| Payment not matched | Pay to the exact bank details shown and enter the payment reference correctly on the portal |
| OTP not received | Check the mobile number and email entered; request the OTP again before the session expires |
| Already registered on another operator | Use your existing Principal Entity ID; don't pay again |
| Templates rejected | Check category, variables and brand name; see the template rejection guide |
Airtel runs a DLT portal for commercial communication, often reached by searching "Airtel DLT". Businesses register there as an Enterprise (Principal Entity), then register headers and SMS templates.
A fee of ₹5,900 is commonly reported for Airtel Principal Entity registration. Airtel's portal shows bank details for paying the fee by NEFT, cheque or demand draft. Fees can change, so confirm the current amount and GST treatment on the portal before paying.
No. DLT registration is shared across operators, so an Airtel registration is recognised by Jio, Vi and BSNL. You pay the entity fee on one portal only.
Besides business and identity documents, Airtel's portal provides its own templates to download and fill in, including a letter of authorisation, a GST declaration, a document checklist and a header (CLI) authorisation letter. Fill them in the same format and wording as the samples.
Published walkthroughs describe verification taking up to about 24 hours when documents are complete. It can take longer if the portal asks for corrections, so respond quickly.
